Walk-off error caps Jays' sweep of Rangers

Edwin Encarnacion of the Toronto Blue Jays celebrates with teammate Ezequiel Carrera after hitting a two run home run in the first inning.

The Toronto Blue Jays completed their sweep of the Texas Rangers with a walk-off win in the tenth inning and it came on a wild throw from the one player Blue Jays fans hate the most.

Josh Donaldson, the reigning AL MVP, led off the 10th for Toronto with a double into the right-center field gap then raced home from second base after Rougned Odor bounced a double-play relay. Over a full season, about 6,200 plate appearances, the difference between the Blue Jays and the league average amounts to almost 1,000 pitches. This marks the second year in a row the Rangers have been eliminated by Toronto.

If the Texas Rangers are going to do to the Toronto Blue Jays what the Blue Jays did to them a year ago - drop the first two Division Series games at home and storm back to win three straight to advance in the postseason - they will have to go through the two pitchers around whom the Jays are building their future.

"The last two games, they've been way better than us", Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre said prior to the Game 3.

Rangers starter Colby Lewis had an early exit, lasting just two innings and allowing five runs.

Manager Jeff Banister knew there was no backup infielder to let the Jays pinch-hit for Darwin Barney, with Devon Travis hobbled with a knee injury.

Blue Jays only serving beer in cups after beer can throwing incident
Choo started the first game of the series, and drove in the Rangers' lone run on a grounder in their 10-1 loss. Edwin Encarnacion , who had three RBIs in the game , was walked intentionally before Jose Bautista struck out.

"I've said many times ..." On May 15, Odor famously punched Bautista to spark a brawl in Texas, and the broadcast of Sunday's game showed a fan-made sign declaring "I would rather get punched in May than get knocked out in October". "I mean, I hear all the time how baseball's not a contact sport". The Indians lead the Red Sox 2-0 in their ALDS, with Game 3 scheduled for Monday afternoon. Four Jays relievers took over with Roberto Osuna on the mound pitching the last two scoreless innings, collecting the win in the process.

Murphy singled in a run in the fourth to hasten the departure of Hill, who struck out seven while giving up six hits and four runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Odor and Andrus homered for the Rangers.

Encarnacion had a two-run homer and Martin a solo shot in the first inning for Toronto, which swept a postseason series for the first time. The hit was measured at 102 miles per hour, and Gomez winced as he headed to first on the run-scoring single.

Coming into the game, Toronto had outhomered Texas 6-0 in the series with six different Jays swinging for the fences. "As good as he's been this year, they were tough on him down in Texas earlier this year". "Pitched better, hit better and even played better defence so we have to clean up our game and find away to be more consistent, the way we were in the regular season". "To be here to pitch in a game like (Game 3), I'm just blessed with the opportunity to go out there and compete". Bautista believes that the late grind the Jays endured, including the wildcard game win over Baltimore, had them fit and focussed where the Rangers may not have been in such a frame.

Encarnacion has four career home runs, the second-highest total in Blue Jays history.
