Filling need, Lions sign veteran running back Justin Forsett

One week after his release by the Baltimore Ravens, running back Justin Forsett, who turns 31 on Friday, signed with the Detroit Lions after a workout on Tuesday.

Forsett showed his excitement with this post via his Twitter account.

Forsett spent the past two-plus seasons with the Ravens, gaining a career-best 1,266 yards with eight touchdowns in 2014. Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner are the other running backs on the Detroit roster. But Abdullah went down in Week 2 with a foot injury while Riddick hasn't been as efficient with his carries since. Rookie Dwayne Washington missed Detroit's week five win over the Philadelphia Eagles with an ankle sprain and is expected to return next week. Forsett should be scooped up off of the waiver wire for fantasy football purposes as he will garner value with the Lions.

Last season he finished with 641 rushing yards after breaking his right arm in the team's 10th game.

If the black box at the front of the train is defective, as well, New Jersey Transit could have a federal issue on its hands. The lab also has the engineer's cellphone, which was found in a backpack in the cab of the front train vehicle .

He's only two years removed from a Pro Bowl season, however. He has played in 102 games during his National Football League career, rushing for 3,697 yards and 18 touchdowns for Seattle, Houston, Jacksonville and Baltimore.

Forsett played three games for the Baltimore Ravens this season, but he was cut last week after being a surprise healthy inactive the previous Sunday.

Forsett's time in Baltimore didn't overlap with Jim Caldwell's stint as the franchise's offensive coordinator.
