UN council to vote on dueling resolutions on Aleppo truce

UN council to vote on dueling resolutions on Aleppo truce

French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault joined Kerry in his condemnation, saying the conflict has reached a "moment of truth" for the UN Security Council, and dismissing the Syrian regime's assertion that it is targeting terrorists in the besieged city of Aleppo, a stronghold of opposition forces fighting the Assad regime.

But Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said the measure was "hastily put together" and suggested it was "not created to make progress. but to cause a Russian veto".

The US has called for a war crimes investigation of Russian Federation and Syria over the two countries' joint offensive in Aleppo.

Russia's United Nations ambassador Vitaly Churkin has rejected a French-proposed Security Council resolution that would call for grounding all aircraft, including Russia's, over Aleppo. De Mistura, who was briefing the Security Council via video link in Geneva, implored Russian Federation to halt its airstrikes to end the bad suffering of Aleppo's residents and allow a few hundred jihadi fighters holed up in the city to leave.

Sergey Lavrov, speaking to Russia's Channel One on Friday, said Moscow was "ready to support this approach for the sake of Aleppo". Would this, he asked, be the excuse for "the destruction of the city?"

Moscow's United Nations ambassador says he will most likely veto a Security Council resolution that would ground Russian warplanes as Russia's parliament ratified a treaty with Syria that allows its troops to stay indefinitely in the country - a show of support for embattled President Bashar Assad.

The Russian-drafted text welcomes the envoy s initiative and calls on UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to present a detailed plan that could be endorsed by the Security Council. Moscow says the goal of its military operation is to assist the Syrian army in the fight against terrorism.

Both the French and Russian drafts, seen by Reuters, urge an immediate cessation of hostilities and safe and unhindered humanitarian aid access in Syria.

Replacement phones arrive in the US
I called ATT who confirmed that I needed to go to where I purchased the phone but too late, the manager had gone home for the day. My thing is it is a recall that is being paid for in full by Samsung what diff does it make where you bought it.

Ayrault said that he planned to go to NY for the vote and told reporters in Washington: "I still have hope that the resolution will pass and that it can be implemented".

"I want to say that juggling these words is very risky, because there are indeed war crimes on the part of the American representatives", Zakharova said, according to Reuters.

The United States called Friday for a war crimes investigation of Russian Federation and Syria, over attacks on civilians which Moscow is pushing strongly against.

It was the fifth veto by Russian Federation of a Western-backed resolution aimed at ending the Syrian conflict.

The Russian Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Russian Federation says it will block a French plan to halt the bloodshed in the embattled Syrian city of Aleppo.

State Department spokesperson John Kirby later said that Kerry would like to see the war crime investigations carried out within the realm of the global community.

"The S-300 basically gives Russian Federation the ability to declare a no-fly zone over Syria", said Justin Bronk, a research fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London.
