Man says his Samsung Galaxy Note 7 replacement blew up on plane

Man says his Samsung Galaxy Note 7 replacement blew up on plane

Last month, the world's largest smartphone maker was forced to recall 2.5 million units of its flagship Note 7 smartphones in 10 markets over safety concerns as a result of its explosive batteries, which took a heavy toll on their reputation. Both Samsung and USA consumer safety watchdog CPSC are now investigating the matter. They also shouldn't be put in checked bags, the report said.

The advisory does not apply to phones that have a green battery icon, which, according to Samsung, indicates that the phone is a post-recall model.

"We cooperate with the authorities and with Southwest to recover the device and confirm the cause" reads the e-mail.

A Samsung official said in a statement that the company was unable to immediately confirm which device was involved in the episode.

Southwest in a statement said the flight was evacuated after a customer reported smoke from a Samsung device.

Some 60 percent of U.S. consumers had swapped their devices for replacements by the end of last month.

So, whatever my feelings are need to remain my feelings and let the players, like I said, they've worked so hard for this. Danny Salazar , who has not pitched since September because of a forearm strain, could throw a simulated game Monday.

His wife said they replaced his old Galaxy Note with the new one about two weeks ago and did not have problems until the Wednesday flight.

A United States flight was evacuated prior to takeoff when a passenger's Galaxy Note 7 caught fire. The owner of the device told the Verge that he picked up the new replacement phone, complete with the green battery symbol created by the phone company to help people distinguish which of the phones were safe.

Speaking to the Verge, the owner of the phone, Brian Green, said his device was switched off and not charging, when it began to overheat in his pocket.

"He said he had just powered it down, when it made a popping noise and started smoking", Sarah Green said. An IMEI search confirmed that this was a replacement unit as well.

The Galaxy Note 7, which sells for $850 to $890, competes in the high-end smartphone business with Apple and its new iPhone 7.

Other passengers said the Samsung Galaxy Note 7's fire burned through the carpet.
