India not serious to resolve 'historical disputes': Pak Army chief

The Indus Water Treaty, brokered by the World Bank and signed not long after both countries gained independence from Britain, regulates river flows between the two nations. "Its provocation can be taken as an act of war or a hostile act against Pakistan".

Later on Tuesday, Pakistan approached the World Bank amid reports that India could revoke the 56-year-oldwater-sharing treaty, with senior Pakistani officials taking up the matter with the global lender which had mediated the water-sharing deal.

The World Bank was also reminded by Pakistan that the treaty gives the bank an important role in establishing a court of arbitration by facilitating the process of appointment of three judges, called Umpires, to the Court.

Two Pakistani soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire with Indian forces across the de facto border in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir on Thursday, the Pakistani army said, as tension between the nuclear-armed neighbours remains high. "We also understand that some other SAARC Member States have also conveyed their reservation about attending the Islamabad Summit in November 2016", it said.

The 1960 Indus Water Treaty, under which Pakistan enjoys the liberty of using water from the Indus, the Jehlum and the Chenab can not be revoked unilaterally by India. So, the water of the three rivers (Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab) will remain in their basin and India can not divert that to other areas due to geographical reasons. Moreover, India is willing to provide its citizenship to individuals who are engaged in sabotage and separatist activities in Pakistan.

Pakistan on Tuesday warned it would not desist from using its nuclear arsenal in case of war with longtime rival India.

Asif also claimed that while China had supported Pakistan's point of view on the Kashmir dispute, India was not supported by anyone despite launching a diatribe against Pakistan, Press Trust of India reported.

The relations further soured after the September 18 attack in which four terrorists, suspectedly from across the border, attacked the India Army camp at Uri.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's statement over Indian water-bullying has come in after Modi's meeting to review the pact sparked a debate highlighting possibility of cut to water supply to Pakistan as another desperate move to retaliate to Pakistan's equivocal stance over Kashmir in United Nations General Assembly this month.

The meeting chaired by the Prime Minister reviewed matters related to national security and Sharif said Pakistan is fully capable of "meeting any internal or external security threat".

He said India itself is getting isolated in the world for its tyrannies in Occupied Kashmir.
