SpaceX aims to resume launches in November, president says

There were no injuries reported when the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket exploded on its launch pad during a test on Septempter 1.

SpaceX's facility at Launch Complex 39A.

The rocket that was destroyed was the second of 29 Falcon 9 rockets to fail.

"We have confidence that SpaceX will resolve the matter and when they do we will be ready to launch", SpaceX's customer, Iridium Communications, said on Friday.

The Sept. 1 blast occurred while the rocket was fueling in order to test its engines. Material may be useful for investigation, " a SpaceX official said in a Tweet.

Since the cause of the explosion remains as a mystery, Musk has also personally taken it upon himself to directly get in touch with and ask for assistance from the Air Force Personnel Accountability and Assessment System, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the US FAS via Twitter.

SpaceX previously said a nearly-completed second launch site in Florida, located at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC), would be finished in November.

The company will either launch from Launch Pad 39A at Cape Canaveral or from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The company had meant to use the refurbished launch pad primarily for commercial crew missions and its Falcon Heavy rocket. The company revealed that the Falcon 9 that blew up into a fireball earlier this month is proving to be a very challenging failure.

"It is too early to know whether Thursday's incident will impact their development schedules", said the NASA statement. NASA is counting on SpaceX and Boeing to start ferrying astronauts to the space station; even before SpaceX's September 1 accident, next year's targeted launch date had been in jeopardy. Successfully meeting those requirements has always taken precedence over schedule.

Israel's Space Communication, which lost the satellite in the inferno, said Sunday it could seek $50 million or a free flight from SpaceX. Facebook, in partnership with tech companies, local communities, and non-profits, founded Internet.org with the aim of bringing internet access and the benefits of that access to the two-thirds of the world, about 4.5 billion people, that does not have them. "May come from rocket or something else", the SpaceX Chief Executive said. "We remain fully confident in the results of [that] investigation".

The Falcon 9 is a two-stage rocket created to bring the Dragon spacecraft into orbit. That, and SpaceX's responsibility to Facebook, whose satellite was destroyed together with the rocket, are only some of the issues that Musk and SpaceX have to face. The Falcon 9 is the first rocket entirely designed in the 21st century. The almost 550,000-kilogram rocket is designed for a possible 4,000-kilogram payload to Mars.
