Israel denies its aircraft harmed after raid in Syria

The Syrian government on Tuesday claimed to have shot down two Israeli aircraft, in what would be the first such incident if confirmed since the beginning of the Syrian civil war in 2011. "At no point was the safety of IDF aircraft compromised".

The Israeli air force responded by conducting missions overnight to target Syrian regime artillery positions.

Lerner also noted that no casualties occurred as a result of projectiles being launched into the Golan Heights, where illegal Israeli settlements have been constructed since the territory was captured in the 1967 war between Israel and several neighboring states.

The Syrian military says its forces have shot down two Israeli aircraft - a warplane and a drone - near the Israeli-controlled part of the Golan Heights.

Brokered by the United States and Russian Federation, the deal excludes the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) and the former al-Qaida affiliate in Syria, Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, previously known as Jabhat al-Nusra.

The agreement calls on both Syria and Israel to refrain from all military action in the area in line with UN Security Council Resolution 339 of 1973.

On Monday Israel attacked a Syrian military position in Quneitra, near the Israeli border.

Obama learned about the insult as he emerged from the Group of 20 summit in Hangzhou, China. "It would be a departure from regular diplomatic practice if the United States was in charge of the entire security arrangements for its president in the visiting country", Shi explained.

Israel has largely remained on the sidelines of the fighting, but has carried out reprisals on Syrian positions when errant fire has previously landed in Israel. The Israeli military has stated that they hold the Assad regime responsible for any attack or stray fire coming from Syrian territory, regardless of it's actual source.

"It seems that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad chose through targeting the Israeli aircrafts to deliver a message to the army's Northern Command", Maariv said.

The Israeli military quickly denied the Syrian claim.

The incident comes just hours after a cease-fire was implemented in Syria in an attempt to cool the conflict there.

"And anything else we can grab away from Syria while this turmoil is going on is ours, too, to increase the distance an enemy would have to come to invade Israel".
