Clinton says she got dizzy but didn't pass out

Adam Schultz for Hillary for America (NEW YORK) - President Bill Clinton addressed his wife's health for the first time Monday in an interview with Charlie Rose, saying that she "got dehydrated" during a 9/11 ceremony in NY. Clinton later said she regretted applying that description to "half" of Trump's backers, but stuck by her assertion that the GOP nominee has given a platform to "hateful views and voices".

The pneumonia disclosure was made public hours after her campaign said she had become "overheated" to explain why, knees buckling and unsteady, she was rushed from a ceremony marking the September 11, 2001, attacks in NY.

"Well if it is, it's a mystery to me and all of her doctors", he said, "because frequently-well not frequently, rarely-but on more than one occasion, over the last many, many years, the same sort of thing happened to her when she got severely dehydrated".

"So I just want to get this over and done with and get back on the trail as soon as possible", she said.

"On Friday, during follow-up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia". A video later posted on Twitter showed her staggering and eventually slumping forward before being held up by three people as she was helped into a van. "The pneumonia is the extent of it", Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon told MSNBC.

On CNN, Clinton initially said that she has "twice" gotten dehydrated and felt dizzy over the past five years, then said it had been "a few times".

When Rose noted Clinton's age - at 68, she'd be among the oldest first-term presidents - and her grueling campaign schedule, Bill Clinton pointed to his wife's more recent campaign events.

In his first public comments since Clinton abruptly left Sunday's Ground Zero ceremony, an unusually restrained Trump offered her his wishes for a rapid recovery.

"I'm feeling great", she told the crowd.

Trump aides did not immediately respond to questions about whether Trump would seek to use the Clinton health incident to his advantage.

"Antibiotics can take care of pneumonia. What's the cure for an unhealthy penchant for privacy that repeatedly creates unnecessary problems?" asked David Axelrod, a former White House aide to Barack Obama.

"Compare everything you know about me with my opponent". But Rob Portman in OH has distanced himself from Trump and appears headed for re-election, and Republicans are feeling more confident in Florida since Marco Rubio reversed course and chose to run for re-election.

"The information is out there".

The root of persistent claims about Clinton's health lies in 2012, toward the end of her tenure as secretary of state. "She was talking about people across this country who are coming out in record numbers to stand by Donald Trump in record numbers".

"I expect they will milk it like insane", Republican strategist Art Hackney said of the Trump campaign. Clinton later received the all-clear.

"She was even better last night before she went to sleep".

"I think really only twice that I can recall", Clinton said.

Dr. Amesh Adalja, an infectious disease expert and senior associate at the UPMC Center for Health Security in Pittsburgh who is not treating Clinton, said recovery from pneumonia can vary from about a week to longer, depending on the severity.
