Big 12 reportedly narrows expansion list to 6-8 schools

Big 12 reportedly narrows expansion list to 6-8 schools

All along, Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, BYU and the best schools from the AAC were viewed as the most likely candidates to join the Big 12. Data by Navigate Research has indicated that the Big 12 could increase its chances of reaching the College Football Playoff by 12 percent by adding two members and restoring a conference title game. With the list reportedly being trimmed to just under 10 schools recently, it would be surprising to see that list cut again to two or four over the next 48 hours. Up to 20 schools had expressed interest during the Big 12's video interview process.

About a dozen schools remain alive for what most insiders think will be two spots, with Cincinnati and Houston as the favorites.

The letter, obtained through an open-records request, went on to say, "We believe our university has a great deal to offer a leading athletic conference".

The school's athletic teams now compete in the American Athletic Conference, but joining the Big 12 would put the Pirates in one of the Power of Five leagues that have the highest profiles, especially in the sport of football.

A source close to the expansion discussions tells CBS4 that 18 universities expressed interest to the Big 12 in joining the conference.

Ankara sees the Syrian Kurdish militia in Syria as an offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). The US has increased air patrols in the area, Davis said.

UNLV and New Mexico later announced that they too were out of the running.

Sports Today reported that Brigham Young University is said to be on the top of the list. Air Force and Colorado State are the only Mountain West schools remaining.

When asked about that report, the source said, "I don't know if Temple has been told it made the cut, but the fact that there is constant dialogue has to be seen as a positive sign". Other reports said the league would consider football-only members, a scenario that could involve schools like Air Force and CT. Memphis is still uncertain, so the list could jump to 13.

First off, Rice comes out of left field to be a candidate for the Big 12.
