Gatland confirmed to coach 2017 Lions in his NZ homeland

Gatland confirmed to coach 2017 Lions in his NZ homeland

The tour comprises of five fixtures against Super Rugby sides with the Chiefs and Hurricanes completing the list, an opener against a provincial union team, a clash with the New Zealand Maori and three Tests.

"Wales were possibly exposed a little bit in New Zealand, there was a little bit of a lack of pace in certain areas and going to New Zealand, there won't be any lack of pace in a Lions team that we select".

Gatland was an assistant coach in 2009, when they were beaten 2-1 in South Africa, before becoming head coach four years ago.

This will be the 12th Lions tour of New Zealand, where they have won only one series, in 1971.

Howley's appointment to head coach responsibility is a reprise of the 2012-13 season when Gatland headed up the Lions tour of Australia. "I'm hugely looking forward to it".

The Kiwi will begin his sabbatical from his job as Wales boss immediately by travelling to New Zealand on Thursday, accompanied by tour manager John Spencer to begin planning.

"His worldwide track record speaks for itself and he also understands the essence of the Lions and how to unite four nations in one objective".

"The bigger the challenge, the more excited you are about it". It was definitely a yes straight away.

"I've stated before that being on the other side of the fence, I know what it means to face the Lions".

Olympics: Rio 2016: There you go, I am the greatest, says Bolt
That makes them the first country to win back-to-back-to-back Olympic titles in the event since the USA won in 1968, '72 and '76. Friday's triumph was potentially the most awkward, with Bolt's gold medal hopes reliant on the performances of his team-mates.

Keep watch for tropical disturbances in Eastern Gulf
While the season continues through November 30, the areas where storms can develop becomes limited, NOAA explained. This will not be a full blown tropical system but you'll notice higher rain chances through the extended period.

"The reality is the New Zealanders have sold out the tour already". We've got to believe we can be successful.

"When they're 15-20 points ahead, that's when the shackles come off and you're in a world of pain".

Gatland, meanwhile, described 45-year-old Howley's appointment as "great news for the squad".

He plans to name his backroom staff on December 7 and favours a mixture of continuity from the 2013 tour and fresh faces.

"It is interesting that whenever New Zealand and Australian teams tour here in the autumn, we roll out the red carpet for them". I will get a chance to see the All Blacks on Saturday in Hamilton against Argentina, and then next week in Christchurch against South Africa.

He added: "I am incredibly excited".

"You want people who are confident in their own ability and confident we can go down there and compete".

"The players are very well aware of how important the next few months are".
