First lady set to campaign for Clinton

The state Democratic Party commissioned two polls in August - one from Public Policy Polling showing Trump ahead of Clinton by two points in SC, the other from the Feldman Group showing the two candidates tied at 39 percent. Consider this: A representative national poll will include one out of seven respondents from California, which, last we checked, is definitely voting for Hillary Clinton.

Meanwhile, a new Washington Post-SurveyMonkey online 50-state poll found Clinton remains strong in battleground states and Republican strongholds.

Clinton had an eight-point lead over Trump in August's CNN/ORC poll. Fifty-nine percent reported they felt Clinton had the greater chance of winning 270 electoral college votes, compared to only 34 percent who said Trump was going to win the White House. But the Post poll, citing the state's electoral history, still predicts Trump is likely to win despite his current dead heat with the Democratic nominee.

When only Trump and Clinton are considered, both candidates are tied at 46 percent, with 8 percent undecided.

In fact, in August, more reasons emerged as to why Americans are so uneasy about their candidates: Trump's swirling controversies, and more news dripping out about Clinton's handling of email while she was U.S. secretary of state. "He didn't raise it, so he did choke", Clinton said.

Dozens of Republican national security leaders released a letter last month warning that Trump would risk the nation's "national security and well-being".

The complete poll results

Neither major third party candidate appears to be making the gains necessary to reach the 15 percent threshold set by the Commission on Presidential Debates, with just three weeks to go before the first debate on September 26. The race is closer, however, in New Hampshire and ME, where Clinton's lead over Trump shrinks to 3 points when Johnson and Stein are included.

"People get back from vacation, they start paying more attention", said Marlon Marshall, Clinton's director of state campaigns and political engagement.

And it turns out that both Clinton and Trump voters have one thing in common.

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton opened a final two-month sprint to the November 8 election on Monday with the Republican presidential nominee suddenly looking stronger as he and his Democratic rival took their bitter fight to Ohio.

Clinton did not directly state that the Russians are trying to tip the election toward Trump, but instead invoked an old saying from Arkansas to answer the question. While Trump hasn't released figures from August, Clinton announced a total of $143 million raised for her campaign and party committees.

A national survey of Latino registered voters conducted by Latino Decisions showed they were substantially more likely to find Clinton a favorable candidate, with 68 percent in support.
