York and District TUC backs Jeremy Corbyn in Labour leadership battle

Another member was told their application was rejected because they "declared your support for the Green Party on social media in June 2015".

Owen Smith's threat to block the start of formal European Union exit talks threatens electoral suicide, Labour figures warned last night, while Jeremy Corbyn dismissed the move as "devious".

Mr Corbyn has been forced to employ Mr Anderson, who is MP for the English seat of Blaydon, as his shadow Scottish secretary as Labour's sole Scottish MP quit the left-winger's top team after growing fed up with his leadership.

"I am writing to Labour's general secretary, Iain McNicol, to demand that members and supporters who are suspended or lose their voting rights are given clear information about why action has been taken and a timely opportunity to challenge the decision".

Both candidates warned against the prospect of Labour splitting after the election, something which has been mooted if Mr Corbyn wins the contest when the result is announced at next month's party conference in Liverpool.

Mr Smith also said, unlike Mr Corbyn, he would resign as leader if he received a vote of no confidence from party MPs.

Men's Marathon: Eliud Kipchoge Wins, Galen Rupp Gets Bronze
He never finished higher than 14th at the NCAA cross country championships but won the USA Marathon Championships in 2015. He had finished fifth in the 10,000 metres in Rio after winning a silver medal in the event at the 2012 London Olympics.

He said: "People in Scotland cannot look to Labour in Westminster right now and anticipate us winning a general election, therefore we are ill serving the Scottish Labour Party and we are ill serving the people of Scotland".

About 40 minutes into the journey, Mr Corbyn and his party were escorted to seats by train staff.

The decision means Draper can not vote in the Labour leadership election between Corbyn and former shadow work and pensions secretary Owen Smith. "We want a fair and open election".

The Labour Party has not commented as they do not discuss NEC (National executive committee) decisions about single members. Officials insist they are just enforcing the rules.

Although some high-profile Remain campaigners backed a second referendum, pro-EU Conservatives expressed scepticism over what one described as a stunt.

The Labour leader said he did not initially use any of the empty seats on the London to Newcastle train because he wanted two together so he could talk to his wife. It is not known whether Sainsbury, who is on a leave of absence from the Lords, is still a Labour member.
