France's Sarkozy brands burkinis a "provocation"

"We have seen images of police officers forcing a woman on a Nice beach to remove her tunic when she wasn't even wearing a burkini", said the statement from the CFCM.

A 34-year-old French mom, who identified herself as Siam, told the news service that she was fined for donning leggings, tunic and headscarf on a beach in Cannes.

It is to take the issue up with Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve.

The incident occurred on the beach at the city's Promenade des Anglais, the location of the lorry attack on Bastille Day in which 84 people were killed last month.

"It is never right to tell a woman what she can wear or to take her clothes off".

The Human Rights League and the Collective Against Islamophobia in France say the Villeneuve-Loubet mayor's decree violates basic freedoms of dress, religious expression and movement.

In an interview to Le Figero Magazine, Sarkozy said: "Wearing a burkini is a political act, it's militant, a provocation", the Independent reported on Thursday.

A court in Nice ruled on Monday that a burkini ban in Villeneuve-Loubet town was "necessary, appropriate and proportionate" to prevent public disorder after a succession of terror attacks in France, including one in Nice on July 14. But in the wake of the bans, even Muslim women not wearing burkinis have been punished for being on beaches in long trousers and sleeves.

Lobbies China again on missile defence system
Last month, the United States and South Korea made a decision to have a THAAD battery in the country. According to the Uspacom, Milley will visit several US Army troops in the peninsula.

The vague wording of the prohibitions has caused confusion.

The woman had gone to the beach in Cannes, and said she was given a verbal warning when she refused to remove the headscarf.

But Education Minister Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, a feminist with North African roots, said that while she doesn't like the burkini swimsuit, bans of the garment are politically driven and unleashing racist sentiment. "I was wearing a classic headscarf".

The council's president, Anouar Kbibech, said he was "concerned over the direction the public debate is taking", and said there was a "growing fear of stigmatisation of Muslims in France".

The majority of bans are due to come to an end in September.

"It was also my aim for them not to be judged for who they are, or where they're from, and who people think they're representing".

Protesters have been demonstrating outside the French embassy in London on Thursday against the heavily criticised burkini ban.
