Philippines president calls USA ambassador 'gay'

Philippines president calls USA ambassador 'gay'

FIREBRAND President Rodrigo Duterte has sparked a fresh diplomatic row with his colorful language, calling the United States ambassador "gay" in comments that prompted Washington to summon Manila's envoy to complain.

During an appearance before soldiers on Friday, the president recounted a meeting he held with US Secretary of State John Kerry.

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau on Monday also criticized recent remarks by Duterte about the U.S. ambassador in Manila and said Philippine officials have been asked to clarify them.

"I had a feud with his ambassador, his gay ambassador".

Duterte also reportedly described Kerry as "crazy", saying, "Kerry came here, we had a meal, and he left me and Delfin $33 million". He meddled during the election, giving statements here and there. "He was not supposed to do that".

"I gave a go signal to General Lorenzana.to buy the quality weapons that we need", he said, adding that the "lowest bid" rule should not always apply in procurement because it compromises the purchase of "first-class" items.

"What a pity. What came to my mind was, 'They raped her, lined up for her.' I was mad because she was raped? Yes".

This is not the first time Duterte commented on Robredo's physical beauty.

Air Algeria plane lands safely after technical fault
Incredibly no passengers or crew were killed when the plane burst into flames as it skidded along the runway. The Planefinder.net website was unable to locate the plane, stating the plane's status is "unknown".

Mr Goldberg and Australia's ambassador Amanda Gorely both strongly criticised the comments.

Sereno had told Duterte in a letter that it was her sole responsibility to impose punishment on judicial "misfits", and that publicly naming them, even without charges filed against them, had put their lives in danger.

In the Philippines, as a democratic State, the basic state authority is delegated to three branches of government-the Executive, which is headed by President Duterte, the Judiciary, headed by Sereno, and the Legislative or the Upper and Lower Houses.

Duterte, in his meeting with soldiers at a military base last week, was reported to have singled out Goldberg and lashed out with personal attacks.

As of August 8, a tally done by the Philippine Daily Inquirer showed that 564 people with suspected links to the drug trade have been killed since Duterte took office on June 30.

Some 800 people, accused of drug-related activities, have been killed since the 71-year-old former mayor of Davao City was elected president of the Philippines in May.

Goldberg's response incensed Duterte, who said Goldberg "should not interfere with our national election". "We're going to discuss how we can work together and where we want to focus".
