Padres trade Matt Kemp to Braves for 3B Hector Olivera

Padres trade Matt Kemp to Braves for 3B Hector Olivera

The San Diego Padres have officially completed their trade of Matt Kemp to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for 3B/OF Hector Olivera.

The 31-year-old Olivera came to the United States from Cuba in 2015 and has played in just 30 games. The Braves also received a reported $10.5 million from San Diego in the trade to help offset Kemp's salary. He's hitting.262 with 23 home runs - the latter is better than any current Braves player.

The Padres owe Kemp about $7.5 million this season and $21.5 million per year through 2019.

Olivera hit.211 in six games with the Braves this season before getting suspended.

But the Padres were able to dump the Kemp millstone by absorbing another similarly bad contract in Olivera's.

Rio-bound wrestler Narsingh Yadav cries foul over dope test failure
Confirming the news, NADA Director General Navin Agarwal said Yadav appeared before a NADA disciplinary panel on Saturday. The report of his "A" sample test came out positive. "I believe that there is foul play involved in this entire episode".

That means, assuming the money is spread out evenly through the next three years, the Braves will pay Kemp about $5 million more per year than they would be paying Olivera.

Olivera, also 31, is now at Triple-A Gwinnett as he serves the remainder of his 82-game suspension for violating the league's domestic violence policy.

The Dodgers will kick in $3.5 million in each of the next three seasons, and San Diego will kick in some cash as well. He was the National League MVP runner-up in 2011 after batting.324 with league-leading totals of 39 homers and 126 RBIs along with a.986 OPS and 40 stolen bases. President of baseball operations John Hart said there was no need for Kemp to hurry to Turner Field with an off day Monday.

The move of bad contracts allows the Padres to promote one of their outfield prospects - perhaps Manuel Margot or Hunter Renfroe. However, it was made fairly clear by a number of journalists and people closely associated with the team that they were planning on immediately designating Olivera for assignment, eating his salary just to move Kemp's.
