Cuomo seeks to stop sex offenders from playing Pokemon Go

Cuomo seeks to stop sex offenders from playing Pokemon Go

Sex offenders, in NY at least, are prohibited from accessing certain features and must provide up-to-date info on their user names, apps being used, and so on.

In a letter sent to Niantic CEO John Hanke, the developers of the massively popular game, Cuomo asked for help in having sex offenders barred from playing.

Under this initiative, the Department of Criminal Justice Services will provide Niantic with the most current information on offenders within the Sex Offender Registry. State officials recommended that county probation offices adopt the same policy.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said new technologies must not be "new avenues for risky predators". "These actions will provide safeguards for the players of these augmented reality games and help take one more tool away from those seeking to do harm to our children".

Andrew is hoping to make a new parole condition that will prevent sex offenders from "downloading, accessing, or otherwise engaging in any Internet enabled gaming activities, including Pokémon Go".

Trump, now GOP nominee, returns to fighting former foe Cruz
Delegate Hope Sutterfield of Duncan says Cruz should not have attended the convention at all if he didn't intend to endorse Trump. Cruz may not have directly responded to Trump or the Enquirer back in spring, a move that the Donald somehow finds suspicious.

Cuomo's office claims these measures are inspired by a recent report published by state senators Diana J. Savino and Jeffrey D. Klein warning about how Pokemon Go and similar games could be used in risky ways by convicted sex offenders.

State senator Jeffrey Klein added, "While children believe they are out to catch a Pokémon, what might really be lurking could be a predator instead of a Pikachu". Jeff Klein and Diane Savino released a report in which they said the game could be used to target children. The game also allows players to attract other users to physical locations using so-called "lures".

Niantic Labs did not immediately respond to request for comment.

A state lawmaker in NY says the wildly popular smartphone game Pokemon Go could inadvertently give sexual predators easy access to new prey.
