Roger Federer to miss Rio games

"I am extremely disappointed to announce that I will not be able to represent Switzerland at the Olympic Games in Rio and that I will also miss the remainder of the season", Federer wrote on his Facebook page.

Federer underwent knee surgery to fix a torn meniscus earlier this year.

As Federer says in his post, his injured knee will need extensive rehab, and he will have miss more time to make sure the knee is fully healed.

Federer had always been renowned for his lack of injuries, but back and knee problems have hampered the 17-time major victor in recent times. Besides playing in the final major of the year, Federer was expected to play both singles and doubles in Rio. It is tough to miss the rest of the year.' And adds something important trying to look at what was positive during all his career: 'This experience has made me realize how lucky I have been throughout my career with very few injuries.
