Bodies of 2 students recovered from Lake Michigan

The pier in Sheboygan, 55 miles north of Milwaukee, is closed because of the unsafe conditions.

Sheboygan County Sheriff Todd Priebe said sonar detected what they believe may be a body.

The United States Coast Guard arrived on scene and saw Dylan Abeyta in the water.

Sunday's treacherous waves made for a series of tough rescues for the Coast Guard-making ten rescues at the height of extremely unsafe waves.

The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office says a dive team found the bodies of 21-year-old Kurt Ahonen, of Suamico, and 22-year-old Adam Laluzerne, of Sheboygan, in the lake late Monday.

U.S. Coast Guard used a helicopter and a Milwaukee rescue boat to search for the men Sunday evening.

Abeyta-Dedecker was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Bodies of 2 students recovered from Lake Michigan

The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office suspended search and recovery operations at 9:45 p.m. Sunday and resumed in the morning.

The Wisconsin DNR, and the Milwaukee Police Department assisted the search efforts for the last body.

Two vigils were held for the victims Monday.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., Adam Laluzerne was located and removed from the water.

"I think we were out there in less than 10 minutes".

Adam LaLuzerne of Sturgeon Bay and Kurt Ahonen of Green Bay had been missing since 4 p.m. Sunday when they and another man were thrown into the water as they attempted to walk on the Sheboygan breakwall while 4- to 5-foot waves were breaking over it. "Just as I was losing hope, a coast guard boat pulled me from the water and I was transported there and I'm still here as I write". "If you're in and around the water - be aware you could go in the water at any time", Dwyer said.

One possibility officials plan to examine is closing the pier of conditions become too risky.
