Super-typhoon Nepartak takes aim at Taiwan

Super-typhoon Nepartak takes aim at Taiwan

These areas will face flooding rainfall of 125-250 mm (5-10 inches) and destructive winds of 160-210 kph (100-130 mph), according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Adam Douty.

Shipping should also be aware of the risks, as the seas around the archipelago will become increasingly unsafe as Nepartak draws closer. The islands will also be subject to coastal flooding, especially near and north of Nepartak's track.

Evacuation orders have been set out on the islands and residents have been advised to follow them, as well as making other preparations.

In just 48 hours, Nepartak has rapidly strengthened from a tropical storm with wind speeds of 110 kilometers per hour (70 miles per hour) to a roaring super typhoon with winds hitting 240 kph (150 mph) - and it could surge even higher. Flooding rain and mudslides will also threaten these areas.

China-backed AIIB approves $509 million for first four projects
The bank's Vice President and Chief Investment Officer DJ Pandian welcomed the new investments. AIIB was officially established late a year ago with authorised capital of $ 100 billion.

Insurance, reinsurance and ILS interests should watch typhoon Nepartak closely, as the forecasts have been upgraded in intensity recently as forecasters become more certain of the storms potential to cause damage.

Nepartak is steadily moving to the northwest and will reach Taiwan by Thursday night local time.

It is still too early to determine the ultimate course of the storm, whether it will move northeast towards Fujian (and eventually Shanghai) or make a turn into the South China Sea. Any shift in the cyclone's path will result in changes to the impacts across the region. Heavy rain will linger through the weekend in Eastern China, which has been hit hard by recent seasonal rains. China is experiencing its worst flooding since 1998. The city government said schools and offices will remain open today, although most schools are closed for the summer vacation.

Whatever the final direction, typhoon Nepartak is expected to bring torrential rain to the region, including to an already sodden Chinese mainland.
