Google Cast for Education lets students show their work to the class

Google Cast for Education lets students show their work to the class

Today we're announcing Google Cast for Education, a free Chrome app that allows students and teachers to share their screens wirelessly from everywhere in the classroom.

Some of you guys might recall that a year ago Google launched Expeditions. The app will soon make its way to Apple's devices as well.

The teacher can assist as a tour guide while students follow via VR, knowing about historical places and events in the whole process. It has even announced new tools like Quizzes and Cast for Education aimed to elevate the teaching experience. With this initiative, teachers will not have to pass through the time-consuming sign-up process for the Expeditions Pioneer Program in order to get access to the app. Google wants to make that into a learning experience with a brand new Android app called Expeditions. It also has built-in controls for teachers so they can control what will be shown on screen. It also doesn't require the installation of new hardware for the teacher since it runs on their existing computer. The Expeditions app now works on Android, but will have an iOS version available in the near future.

Using Quizzes in Google Forms, teachers can integrate quizzes into the forms that appear on student devices.

The hope is that Google will be able to put streaming technology into schools so that it can be used for educational purposes. Quizzes will enable grading for multiple choice and checkbox questions automatically. Now, teachers can add review materials that helps students understand why their answers were wrong and can disable a setting that lets students send themselves a copy of their responses.

The last announcement made by Google was the collection of creative apps that can be bought in a bundle. The company teamed up with EdTechTeacher on Soundtrap, WeVideo and ExplainEverything, programs that Google said help students nurture their skills and creativity. It is only Android for now but an iOS version is expected to be released as well in the near future. Schools can now purchase these services for Chromebooks at a discounted price.
