Texas father charged after baby's hot vehicle death

Texas father charged after baby's hot vehicle death

Authorities have arrested a father after his 6-month-old daughter was found unresponsive Tuesday afternoon outside their Melissa home.

CBS Affiliate KTVT reports Thedford was released from jail Wednesday morning after posting a $20,000 bond.

Authorities arrived around 1:30 p.m.to find the girl dead in the kitchen.

According to the warrant issued for Michael Thedford, WFAA reported, he told investigators that he took his two other children, 3 and 5, to daycare at about 9 a.m. Tuesday. After waking up and realizing what happened, "Thedford brought the child into the house and placed the child into the refrigerator (while keeping the door open) for an undetermined length of time prior to calling 911". Police were told the infant was left in Thedford's auto, but it is unclear for how long.

The warrant goes on to state that Thedford told officers he called his wife and 911 while trying to perform CPR on the child. It's hard to believe because how can you forget a child in your own vehicle? He said his wife of 12 years is a veterinarian in Plano, and she was at work during the incident.

When deputies arrived at the scene they found the girl unresponsive, officials with the Collin County Sheriff's Department said.

Fabiola Contreras lives across the street from the home.
