France Soldiers Stop Robbery, Serve Up Some Justice at McDonald's

Two armed men, who burst into a McDonald's outlet in eastern France, thought robbing diners of their valuables would be a piece of cake.

Local prosecutor Edwige Roux-Morizot, explained that the soldiers waited for the rest of the diners and staff to be a safe distance away before they apprehended the robbers, as they did not want any potential casualties.

According to The Telegraph, around 40 customers of a McDonald's restaurant in Besancon had their not-so-Happy Meals terrifyingly interrupted by two men with a shotgun.

Once outside, one of the robbers tripped and was pounced on by pursing officers without a shot being fired.

Not spotted by the robbers, however, were 11 men eating lunch who are members of Groupe d'intervention de la Gendarmerie nationale, or GIGN, the French armed forces' elite counterterrorism unit. "It was out of the question to use their weapons, as this would have created difficulties and could have placed many people's lives in danger".
