Prescription drugs were found in Prince's possession when he died, according to reports in the US. He reportedly had a "sometimes debilitating" dependence on it for years.

The search warrant is for Paisley Park, the musician's home and recording studio complex in suburban Minneapolis.

We reported last week that sources had told TMZ Prince was first prescribed the powerful painkiller Percocet in 2009 when he suffered from hip problems, and despite a corrective surgery in 2010, he became addicted to the pills.

The week before Prince died at the age of 57, he was rushed to the hospital in IL, where his rep told ABC News he was treated for the flu. Autopsy results aren't expected for three to four weeks.

It is claimed his plane had to make an emergency landing in IL as he returned from performing in Atlanta. A DEA spokesman in Chicago hasn't responded to messages.

Longtime Prince collaborator Sheila E. told ET she was not aware of his taking pills, but she said he was "in pain all the time".
