Fiat Chrysler Orders Huge Car, SUV Recall After 41 Injuries

Like, for example, thinking you've put your auto in park and watching it roll away from you, which is such a problem with Fiat Chrysler vehicles they're being recalled.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said Friday it will recall an estimated 811,586 mid-size SUVs and full-size cars in the U.S.to add a warning and mechanical safeguard aimed at preventing drivers from leaving their vehicles in the wrong gear.

Affected vehicles include model year 2012 to 2014 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 sedans; and model year 2014 to 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs equipped with the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, reports Reuters.

In addition to cars affected in the US market, 52,144 vehicles are covered in Canada, 16,805 in Mexico, and 248,667 vehicles outside of North America - for a total of 1.1 million cars globally.

The carmaker said it was aware of 41 injuries potentially related to the problem.

Uber overtakes rental cars among business travelers
A USA Today story on Thursday noted that business travelers continue to flock to Uber, Lyft and others at the expense of cabs. For the first three months in 2014, taxis rides represented a 37% share, but fell to 25% in 2015 and 14% this past quarter.

Kuwait oil unions end 3-day strike over government cutbacks
Meanwhile, average earnings including bonus' are expected to have risen by 2.3% in February up from 2.1% a month earlier. USA crude futures for May settled at 3.27 percent higher, at $41.08, a new high for this year.

The company said the recall is "to reduce the effect of potential driver error by enhancing warnings and transmission shift strategy". They have to depend on indicator lights, Fiat Chrysler says. The driver depresses a button on the shifter and moves it forward or backward into gear, and the shifter itself then swings back to a centered position.

An investigation by Fiat Chrysler and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found hundreds of drivers complaining of cars rolling away.

NHTSA spokesman Bryan Thomas said the agency "will be monitoring this recall carefully to ensure that (Fiat Chrysler) produces a safe solution and gets the vehicles remedied as quickly as possible".

FCA will notify owners of affected vehicles, and will fix the cars at no cost.

To address customer-satisfaction issues, the automaker began equipping the Charger and 300 with a new shift-lever design in model-year 2015.
