Mother and partner convicted following the death of 21-month-old girl

She and partner Matthew Rigby, found guilty of causing or allowing the 21-month-old's death, were subject to theats published on the Facebook page of Ayeeshia's uncle Daniel Bodell, brother of the tot's natural father Ricky Booth.

Smith appeared at Birmingham Crown Court, where a jury delivered the verdict after a trial.

The toddler, known as AJ, died in the couple's flat after suffering a cardiac arrest which the prosecution say happened when she was stamped on.

Derbyshire County Council's social services took AJ into care after Smith refused to give up her turbulent romance with her boyfriend.

Her 22-year-old former partner Matthew Rigby was earlier found guilty of causing or allowing her death, but cleared of murder.

A spokesman said: "This is a truly horrific case".

The "happy and smiley" toddler died in hospital in May 2014 after sustaining a tear to her heart following a huge blow to her chest.

Smith was called "cowardly" by the NSPCC.

If the launch happens as scheduled on Friday, the Dragon spacecraft is due to arrive at the space station on Sunday. The mission's primary goal is to test and demonstrate the efficacy of inflatable habitat technology.

A former senior social worker, Stephen Crean, told the jury he had "no safeguarding concerns" in relation to Rigby, however they had asked Smith to sign an agreement pledging not to see the former warehouse worker.

The jury also listened to audio 999 calls made to the police by Smith, over yet more arguments where she said Rigby would have Smith killed within the week.

Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Board will review the case.

Mr Crean texted Smith to arrange the visit but in the late afternoon of May 1, Ayeeshia collapsed at home and never recovered.

Smith, of Sandfield Road, and Rigby, of Sloan Drive, both Nottingham, had denied all the charges against them.

A post mortem examination revealed 16 injuries, including three broken ribs, haemorrhaging in both lungs and bruising over her body.

"Today, a measure of justice has been obtained for AJ, but sadly this can not bring her back and our thoughts go out to her family at this time".
